Routine Tests

There is an array of tests and measurements that we can carry out in the surgery including:

  • Electro Cardiograms (ECG)
  • Some urine analysis
  • Blood pressure (You can also do this yourself while you are in the waiting room, using the automated Blood Pressure machine)

We also collect samples that are sent off daily to the laboratories at the hospital.  Our last collection is just after 2pm on a Tuesday and Thursday (so some tests we are not able to do in the afternoon and samples brought in after this time may need to be re-done.) We offer Late collections on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday so our last collection is 5pm.

Some tests will be requested by the GP as a result of symptoms that you have discussed with them.  If you have a family history of particular problems, you should let the doctor know.  It may be appropriate for you to have additional tests to monitor for early signs of these conditions.

Test Results

The results for tests that have been sent off to the labs are notified electronically to the practice when they are available, this could take up to one week and in some cases longer. The practice will normally only contact you about your results if they are abnormal or a further follow-up is necessary. A follow-up might simply mean a discussion with the patient about the results, or it might mean that a treatment plan or further investigations need to be discussed.

If you are concerned about your results, please call reception on 01733 796622 after 2pm.
